Control centre operations can consist of long periods of passive monitoring with occasional, and unpredictable, periods of intensive activity during abnormal and emergency incidents. Operators are expected to perform effectively within this regime, particularly in complex, safety-critical systems. Thorough consideration of all human factors is essential during the specification and design of control centres, operating procedures and technical systems. This enhances safety and efficiency, reduces training time and fatigue, and minimises the risk of operator errors. Our expertise includes: • Human factors integration management • Strategic and operational planning • Operator and team functional and task analyses • Communication and link analyses • Job design and workload assessment • Human failure modes and effects analysis • HCI design for control and communications systems • Information design and display • Room layout, console design and interior design • Console design and furniture selection • Lighting, acoustics and the thermal environment
We are at the forefront of control room standards development. Managing Director Gary Davis was a member of the review panel for ISO 11064: Ergonomics Design of Control Centres.
