People-centred design, user experience, human factors, ergonomics, usability, human engineering: these terms are all ways of describing what we do at Davis Associates. Our work ensures a good fit between people, the things they do, the objects they use and the environments in which they work, travel and play.

Competitive markets, raised consumer expectations and new legislation have lead to a more rigorous consideration of the user in the process. Terms such as 'people-centred', 'user-friendly' and 'inclusive design' are now part of the design language.

People vary in many ways, including:

• Body size and shape

• Strength and mobility

• Sensory acuity

• Cognition

• Experience and training

• Culture

• Emotional needs and desires

As qualified ergonomists, we apply empirical research techniques to factor these characteristics into the design process. Our methods are best applied from the earliest stages, defining user requirements and identifying opportunities for innovation. Based on a rich understanding of users' tacit and latent needs, we can offer practical and realistic solutions to design issues.

By doing this, your products and services can be developed in ways which not only maximise safety and usability, but go beyond those basic needs to delight consumers and strengthen brand values.

To provide an insight into our work, we have provided some case studies under the links shown on the left.

However, we do not restrict our work to these areas. Contact us to discuss how we will meet your particular requirements.
